goFlow gives back : Pedal on the Pier 2015 Event Recap

The Pedal On The Pier 2015 event was a huge success. Benefiting the Harold Robinson foundation, the goal of the event was to raise money to fund Camp Ubuntu, which brings over 25 inner city schools on 3 day camp retreats, Camp Ubuntu Watts-a day camp in the heart of Watts and Parenting from the Heart, a unique parenting program. UBUNTU, an ancient African word and philosophy, translates to: I am, because we are. The incredible success of Pedal on the Pier 2015 is in large part because of YOU!! So, UBUNTU! We are, because of you!!!

What:

An outdoor physical philanthropy event with 100 + stationary bikes on the iconic Santa Monica Pier, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. 400 + riders cycle for 5 hours/100 miles with some of the city’s top cycling instructors, while 1,000 family and friends cheer them on. We have great DJ’s, musical and special guests, dancing, vendors and lots of great food and drink. POTP is a high energy, fundraising event which benefits the HAROLD ROBINSON FOUNDATION. HRF is a 501(c)(3) working to improve the lives of our city’s impoverished children by providing them with a camp retreat where they participate in diverse recreational programs that are designed to strengthen confidence, independence, build character and develop leadership skills.

Why:

The Harold Robinson Foundation was established based on the principle that each and every child, deserves opportunities, no matter where they stand on the socioeconomic ladder.HRF, provides the funding and resources to send Los Angeles’s less fortunate children to camp, in a safe and nurturing environment, far away from the stress that most of them face on a daily basis.

HRF strives to create a sense of purpose and accomplishment in each individual, while working towards building communities through communication and support for schools and families. The mission has grown from the simple hope of allowing youths to experience camp for a weekend to investing in their futures, their families, their schools and their communities.

The Pedal On The Pier event raised $822,566 dollars and the donations are still coming in. goFlow team leader Sorelle Cohen participated in the event. She had such an incredible time and can’t wait to get more involved for the next event. In the mean time, lets keep sending kids to summer camp!

At University of Southern California (USC), sophomore Sorelle Cohen is leading the goFlow ambassador program with admirable enthusiasm. Cohen helped coordinate the USC-goFlow launch party — hosting over 300 guests at the USC Snowboard Team house. USC Concerts Committee hosted their annual concert. Springfest USC, put together one of the largest concerts USC has ever seen. goFlow, along with a charitable jewelry company called Bead Relief, sponsored the event. If you think a 300-person college party, and sponsoring one of the largest concerts in USC history is a solid start (we certainly do), then you’re surly going to be excited about the upcoming parties and events Cohen is plotting. Ian Walsh’s Menehune Mayhem

On Saturday, April 4, Ian Walsh is hosting the 12th annual Menehune Mayhem at Ho’ Okipa Beach Park.

Menehune Mayhem is a surf contest that embraces the community of Maui and the scholastic achievements of its participants.

Ian Walsh, an advocate for introducing and instilling a passion for surfing in Hawaii’s youth, created Menehune Mayhem with the support of Fox as a way of giving back to the children and teens of Maui. The one-day free event for kids 17 years & under, showcases what the surf culture and sport have to offer on Maui. This year will mark the12th annual of Ian Walsh’s Menehune Mayhem.

“When I first started this event 11 years ago it started as something for the kids to look forward to and give them something to do at the beach because there was a lapse in surf events on Maui at that time.”

Last year over 150 young competitors participated in 10 divisions. We expect a great turnout this year too..and it’s not too late to enter!

To sweeten the deal even more, goFlow has teamed up with SoloShot for a giveaway!

1) Download the goFlow app
2) Upload your best Menehune Mayhem photo to goFlow
3) Share you post on Facebook with the hashtags #MenehuneMayhem and #goFlow

Judges Roni Eshel (founder of goFlow) and Ian Walsh will choose a winning photo, and that winner will receive a SoloShot Robot Camera!
