Coral Bleach Patrol

We are very excited to announce goFlow’s partnership with the World Surf League and Columbia University, focusing on a very important environmental project to save our coral reefs.

We call this project: Bleach Patrol

In case you wonder what Coral Bleaching is, allow me to bring you up to speed:

Coral reefs date back more than 400 million years. These intricate ecosystems cover only 0.1% of the ocean surface, but are home for more than 25% of all marine species. Due to rising water temperatures, the coral reefs are being damaged and bleached. The long term effects of coral bleaching is still undetermined, but scientists worry that the threat is greater than just the loss of coral reefs. If the reefs vanished, experts say, hunger, poverty and political instability could ensue. Since countless sea life depends on the reefs for shelter and protection from predators, the extinction of the reefs would ultimately create a domino effect that would trickle down to the many human societies that depend on those fish for food and livelihood.

There has been a 44% decline over the last 20 years in the Florida Keys, and up to 80% in the Caribbean alone.
goFlow is determined to help reduce coral bleaching, so we’ve teamed up with WSL (World Surf League) and scientists at Columbia University to track coral bleaching. Together, we have launched Bleach Patrol. Through direct observation and reporting, goFlow users can help scientists better understand and protect our coral reefs.

goFlow now allows users to upload reports of their local coral reefs, which will help scientists at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory track coral reef conditions. By engaging our worldwide community on goFlow, we aim to improve our understanding of how these magnificent ecosystems are changing now and into the future.

To get involved, simply download the goFlow app, and upload your reports to the coral bleaching category in the mobile app! The reports that users collect and post are sent to the scientists at CU, and stored in their database. Together, we can help save our coral reefs!

If you don’t live near a beach with reefs, you can still help! Please help us spread the word, and tell your friends to download goFlow to get involved!

The goFlow Team

Introducing goFlow 4.6

At goFlow, we are always working to make the best possible app for surfers and outdoor sports enthusiasts. The past few years has been an incredible journey, and we could not be more proud of the community we’ve built.

This month we are excited to announce yet another update to our mobile app. After hearing user feedback, and studying user behavior, we believe these latest updates are going to make the app even more useful for you.

What’s New?

Creating and sharing a post just got a whole lot easier!

Since posting your location updates is the core of the app, we made this feature front and center. Overall, we’ve reduced the number of clicks it takes to update your friends, so you can spend more time doing what you love.

Explore more spots with the world map!

If you’re planning your next international surf trip, or mountain bike expedition, we want to make the planning process as easy for you as possible. You can now explore goFlow posts all over the world, to see where the best conditions are. You can also connect with other athletes from around the world. To access the world map, navigate to “spots,” then “more nearby spots.”

Added more forecast data powered by Surfline!

As our partnership with Surfline continues to develop, we’ve continued to add more forecast data to our app. You can see the basic 3-day forecast listed below each Spot, and can also see more detailed information including wind, tide, weather, sunrise, and sunset time.

Make sure to update your goFlow app, or download the latest version! We’d love to hear what you think about the new features, and appreciate any feedback you can offer for future updates.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for!
You all asked for it, and the time has finally arrived… You can now share VIDEO moments on goFlow.

In all honesty, as a surfer there really is nothing better than seeing the movement of the waves and how the wind is affecting the water to truly get an understanding of surf conditions in real-time.

Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing all of your pics on goFlow, but c’mon, how much cooler is video?

I am so stoked to announce we have now launched video capabilities on our goFlow iPhone app and I can’t wait to go surfing and share my first goFlow video…

I’m looking forward to seeing all your amazing videos from all around the world. To get in on the action, simply update the app, tap the share button, swipe to video and you’re good to go! Whenever you go surfing, paddleboarding, fishing, diving, skateboarding, or literally just enjoying being outside, make sure to share your footage with the goFlow community.

Again, I want to thank you all for continuing to send us your feedback, advice and requests… We’re growing, changing and improving goFlow everyday, just because of YOU.

So stoked to be part of this amazing community.
Have a wonderful summer, full of fun outdoor adventure.
Make it count!
